THE SONG

OF THE MUD

special ANZAC
Picture
special ANZAC 2020
LEST WE FORGET

My inspiration feeds on all of the following - Sandra Leveson's series of paintings entitled 'Pale Gates of Sunrise' on the Flanders poppies. Otto Dix's series on the Catacombs in Palermo. Imants Tillers and Ferdinand Hodler's for their sense of landscaped horizon. Also Stefan Hartman's book 'War and Turpentine'. The title of the highly symbolic painting is borrowed from Mary Borden's poem 'At the Somme'. Texts and pictures available if required. Despite all the elements mentioned, the painting also holds the sense of the horizon-line of the Australian landscape.
